Hello Everyone,

Today I am going to talk about Scholarships. All the students who are trying to go to MS for further studies always want Scholarships for them to study because, Studying in USA in costly. If you get a Scholarship it will decrease the financial assistance that we require from our family. So Let’s discuss some of the questions that students generally have about how to get Scholarships when going for further studies in MS.

1. When should I approach and apply to the Universities for Scholarships?

Many Students have this misunderstanding that they can apply for Scholarships when they apply for the Course in any University. That is Completely Wrong. Here is a link which will give you completely Information on when to apply for Scholarships: Application Process

2. Will the 1oth and the 12th Standard Percentage play a role in getting Scholarships?

Many Students have asked me that will Universities consider there excellent 10th and 12th Standard percentage into account while examining their application. The Answer is No. The Universities only considers your Undergraduate Scores while examining your application.

3. How much Percentage/GPA is required in Under graduation to get Scholarships?

This answer to question is pretty simple. The Universities wants its Applicants who apply for scholarship to have a good Academics Score. The Universities generally want their applicants to maintain a high and consistent Under graduate Score/Percentage/GPA.But your Scholarship will not entire depend on your Academics. Academics plays one of the important role in determining whether you will be able to get scholarships or not.

4. What role does your GRE/GMAT/TOEFL Score play in getting your Scholarships?

Having good Academics is one part but you need to have a good GRE/GMAT and a TOEFL Score to get Scholarships. If you have a Good Academics and an average GRE/GMAT score then too you will have chances in getting Scholarships. The GRE/GMAT and TOEFL scores act as tie breakers when it comes to two applicants on the same level. So getting a good score in GRE/GMAT and TOEFL will also play a major role.

5. Do your Extra-Circular activities play a role in getting you Scholarships?

The answer is Yes. If you have done some research or have published your topics in Journals etc. will have a great significance in deciding whether you will get the Scholarship or not.  Leaderships or Volunteering in any of your College programs also adds value to your application. So it is true that your Extra-Circular activities play a role in getting you Scholarships.

6. Do I need a separate LOR and SOP for applying for Scholarships?

The Answer is it depends on the University for which you are applying on. Some Universities ask for a separate LOR and a SOP for applying for a scholarship. So be prepared for that too.

So to Conclude, the Universities will examine your Application for Scholarships holistically and then decide whether to provide you Scholarship or Not. So I would suggest you to check the University website for the requirements for obtaining Scholarships and then apply.

All The Best.

TOEFL scores also matter while applying for Universities for MS. Just make sure you get 90 and above, that will be enough to get into good universities. But TOEFL not as important as GRE.

        Dear Sir,

I am an experienced enginer who intended to encourage my spouse for MS in US…..issue is my wife is a BSc (Statistics) with just 46% marks (her fate ruined her), apart from that she is so clever that I am being an IIT Bombay passed out she gives ideas to me, in fact her family problems led her into stress during her final year exams which screwed her cumulative percentage.

Here the question is, she got passed out in 2006, she has almost 10 years gap with out any job, I am a well established engineer hence she will get full financial support given a chance in MS in US, can she able to get admitted in MS in US if she do Post graduate diploma in India (PGD 1 year) followed by excellent score in GRE/TOEFEL?
what are the chances of getting scholarship if she is eligible for MS?

    Hello Srinivas sir,
Thank you for the satisfying answers to almost every question above. My question is. If I have a drop in second year but then I improve my performance till 4th year an if I have a good GRE and TOEFL score, then will I be able to get scholarship in US or Germany? Please advise. Thank you.

Drop will certainly affect your chances of getting into Germany. They require the student to be having a good GPA throughout the undergrads
