Old Italian-American lady
Me: Good morning
VO: Good morning, pass me your I20 and passport
Me: Yeah sure, here it is.
VO: What is your qualification?
Me: Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics & Communication
VO: When did you graduate sir?
VO: Please wait sir. (Called another lady and talked for some time)
VO: So when you did graduate you said?
Me: 2011 November
VO: Ok so what have you been doing since then?
Me: I’ve been working as Technical Analyst in GAVS Technologies for 2.6 years
VO: But you said you graduate in 2011.
Me: I get what you’re implying Ma’am. I met with a near fatal accident on the last day of my exam and was bedridden for 8 months. That is the reason for the gap in my career.
VO: Ok what is that you do at GAVS?
Me: My job roles include Antivirus Management, Patch management, i.e., manage Windows & MAC updates that are released every month and Active Directory server administration.
VO: Ok Please tell me how did you know about George Mason Univesity?
Me: When I was researching about universities that offer this course… (She stops me)
VO: Hold on, hold on. Please leave aaaaaaaaaall this template answers, who actually told you about George Mason University?
ME: Yes, I was saying the same. I researched about universities that offer this course and I’ve also asked suggestions from my professors and applied for universities that matched my list and the list that my professors suggested as well.
VO: But you graduated in 2011
ME: Yes, but I still keep in touch with my professors. Thanks to the social networking.
VO: Okay, how much credits is it for first semester, you know? (Her voice was muffled)
Me: It’s $1616 per credit
VO: No, my question is how much credits you require for first semester?
Me: Oh okay, I took 9 credit hours, i.e., 3 subjects
VO: Please tell me about your project before graduation
Me: Okay my UG Project was named Auto-control of Engine using ECU, I did this project in Dec’2010 at Lucas-TVS, A leading automobile company here in Chennai. In more simpler terms, your computer goes to sleep mode whenever you leave it idle, correct? Same way our project aims at putting Automobile’s engine to sleep mode when there’s no action. We use Clutch pedal and Accelerator as input… (Again she interrupts me)
VO: Ok that makes no sense at all.
VO: I said that makes no sense at all, you did your bachelors in Electronics and Communication, Your project was automobile and you were working as Technical Analyst, now you’re going to do MS in Computer science?
Me: I think you were miscarried by the term Automobile, project responsibilities we had was to make the ECU work using Machine language, which needs computers and knowledge of programming. And the subjects I took during my Bachelors are Networking, Computer Architecture and Microprocessor, which again is related to the project. Without studying Networking subject during my bachelor’s, I wouldn’t have survived at my job because it very well aligns with my job role, so I think it does make sense doing Master’s in Computer and Information Science.
VO: Okay, your appearance financing you? (This is what I heard)
VO: your appearance! How are they funding you?
Me: (okay its parents). Yes, my dad is working as Divisional Manager in Ashok Leyland and earns Rs.XXX per month and has been saving money for my education. We have savings of Rs.XX Lakhs and we also have an Education Loan of Rs.20 Lakhs.
VO: Okay, do you have any siblings?
Me: Yes, a younger brother, he’s doing his Bachelor’s here.
VO: Congratulations Your Visa is approved sir.
Me: Ohhoho !! Thanks a ton Ma’am smile emoticon smile emoticon
