The Question was asked by Hrishikesh, One of the Followers of this Blog. He Asked does work experience (say technical) help in getting admission in good universities in US or if not at least in getting placed in companies after completion of MS?. So Let’s Discuss this Question in detail.
1. Does work experience help in getting admission in good universities in US?
Generally Work Experience plays a very little role in getting admissions into Good Universities in US. The Universities on the large look for your Academics Score, Your GRE Score, TOEFL Score, The SOP and the LOR. Work Experience plays a minor role in getting admissions in Good Universities. But some Specializations requires some experience in that field. Let’s take an example, Management in Information Systems (MIS) which is one of the specializations of Computer Science require some experience to apply for that course. But In Most cases Work Experience will have a minor role in getting admissions for MS.
2. Does work experience help in getting placed in companies after completion of MS?
The Answer for this Question is Yes. Having a Work Experience will help you in getting a better job than the Freshers. The opportunities for Experienced students is more in US than the Freshers. But that doesn’t mean that finding jobs for freshers are difficult, It simply means The Student with work experience gets a priority higher than a fresher. The Pay Scale will be high for the Experienced Students than the Freshers. So generally speaking when it comes to finding jobs in USA the Experienced Students will have a greater priority than the Freshers.
To Conclude, I would simply put it this way, Work Experience plays a minor role in getting Admissions for MS but plays a major role when it comes to finding jobs in USA
Hope I was able to cover all the doubts that students might be having with respect to Work Experience.
