This post was Suggested By Dheeraj, one of the Followers of this Blog. He asked the Question that “What is the main Difference between MS In Computer Engineering and MS In Computer Science?” You might have seen many Websites which have explained this difference. But I will try to put it in simple words, so that All the Students can easily differentiate between these two Degrees.
Main Difference: –
Even though both these Courses deal with Computers in general, Computer Engineering and Computer Science concentrate on two very different aspects of computers. In Simple Words, Computer Science is mainly concerned with the software side of computers, with a little overview on the Hardware side too. Computer Engineering is mainly concerned with design, build of the computer hardware with little overview on Software side too.
MS In Computer Engineering: –
MS In Computer Engineering also known as MS In Electronic and Computer Engineering or MS In Computer Systems Engineering, as said above mainly concerns with the Hardware side of the Computers with little overview on Software. In some Universities it generally combines both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.Computer engineers are involved from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. Below is the list of Subjects that are exclusive to MS In Computer Engineering.
- Microprocessor design.
- Logic, signals and systems.
- Electronics analysis.
- Digital Logic
- Embedded Systems
MS In Computer Science: –
MS In Computer Science as said above is mainly concerned with the Software side of the Computers with little overview on the Hardware side. MS In Computer Science in fact has many Specializations. Check Out Various Specializations For Computer Science In MS. Below is the list of Subjects that are exclusive to MS In Computer Science.
- Internet and Network security.
- Robotics and artificial intelligence.
- Programming Languages.
- Data Structures.
- Databases. etc.
Salary Difference Between These Two Degrees: –
The Starting Salaries of MS In Computer Engineering is little Higher than MS In Computer Science. In many Companies in the US, both these degrees are viewed at the same level and the Salaries are also same. So, no major differences in Salaries between these two Degrees.
To Summarize, MS In Computer Engineering mainly concerns with Hardware aspect of the Computers while MS In Computer Science mainly concerns with Software aspect of the Computers. There is a misconception that MS In Computer Engineering does not even look into the Software aspect, which is wrong. They have some subjects related to software too but they do not go in depth in Software. Similarly MS In Computer Science has Subjects related to Hardware, but they do not go in depth in it.
