After being allowed into the consulate, had to wait for more than an hour before being allowed into the interview section. We were then asked to keep our passports, I20 and SEVIS payment receipt handy.
Counter no. 33
Me: Good Morning (with a smile)
(Passed him the I20, SEVIS receipt and paspport as indicated)
VO: Which university are you heading to?
Me: Carnegie Mellon University.
VO: And for which course?
Me: I’m enrolled for an MS in Sustainability Studies.
(he was then typing for quite some time)
VO: What do you intend to do after you complete your course?
Me: (said I intended to work in India after course completion)
VO: Why have you decided to change your stream from Architecture to Science?
Me: Want to learn more about the technical aspect of architectural design.
VO: Your Visa is Approved (with a smile)
Me: Thank you.
Didn’t take me more than 2 minutes for the interview. Before my interview, I saw a student being refused a visa at a different counter because he couldn’t explain why he had chosen a particular course. So guys, do prepare a couple of lines for potential questions, be confident and it will be smooth sailing. smile emoticon
