Question from User:
I booked the flight tickets from Hyderabad to Cincinnati. The itinerary is Hyd-Delhi-Newark-Cincinnati. Flight from Hyderabad to Delhi is Jet Airways and then from Delhi its United Airlines. My question is the layover time in Delhi is 1 hour. Will that time be sufficient to change the flight and have the luggage checked in to the other flight ? I booked via Thomas Cook and they told since they are connecting flights, any delay in any one of the connecting flights will result in the delaying of the other connecting flight as well. Is that really true ?
Answer from Admin:
Firstly, you need to know is 1 hour layover time is always very risky.
Secondly, if the layover deals with coming to an domestic airport from a place and then trying to board an international flight, then the risk increases a lot if you don’t have enough time.
Thirdly, if the domestic airlines from which you arrive in Delhi and the International Airlines are different, in your case it’s Jet Airways and United Airlines and you have only 1 hour layover period then you have to literally run.
Let me tell you what you need to do
Firstly, in Hyderabad ask Jet Airways whether your baggages will be transferred to United Airlines at Delhi or whether you need to pick it up your baggages at Delhi. Try to tell them that they should transfer your bags to United as you don’t have enough time.
Secondly, ask them how you are going to get transferred from Domestic to International Airport in Delhi and how long it would take.
Thirdly, when you arrive at Delhi, while you are being transferred from Domestic to International, make sure you have all your documents ready. You need to fill an immigration form in Delhi. Try to ask in Hyderabad itself to give you the immigration form so that you are ready with the form to clear immigration.
Here’s where the problem arises. Generally immigration lines are huge. You have to request the people to allow you ahead as you have a flight to catch. You will also go through security check. There too, request people to allow you ahead.
Certainly one hour layover is like running a race. If you are traveling for the first time in International Flights, I would never recommend you to take 1 hour layover period. If you are a professional at this, you could easily catch flights. All the Best and have a safe journey.
